On the 9th of March, on the day of Forgiveness Sunday, Patriarch Moses called for penance and blessed the faithful for the beginning of Lent.
During the Divine Liturgy, the ordination of subdeacon Serhiy into deacon took place. It is a great grace to be called to the way of holy ministration on the eve of Lent in order to purify soul and body by fasting and praying during seven weeks and to work for the salvation of people in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
About 2000 years have passed since that time when Jesus the Saviour before leading off His mission of serving to people went to a desert and was staying in fast and prayers without any food for 40 days.
The devil, in turn, tempted Him with different wiles trying to disturb Him from purifying and annealing His soul before the fulfillment of the great Mission.
Since that time, during many centuries the Christians of the entire world have been started the Lent with the sincere hearts.
Fast and prayer like two angel wings that bring human soul to Lord and open the way to salvation.
And on the threshold of these days every Christian has to beg forgiveness and forgive the kindred and near for all the offences with the sincere heart. As Jesus Christ teaches:
"Don't judge others, and God won't judge you.
Don't be hard on others, and God won't be hard on you.
Forgive others, and God will forgive you."
(Luke 6:37)
